San Francisco Public Library
As part of our Book Redistribution project, GRYPHONS Leo Club has partnered up with the San Francisco Public Library to distribute used books to the communities of the city and county of San Francisco. These used books have been taken out of circulation within the SFPL system for many reasons, most often to make space for new books. Although slightly worn, these books are still readable and in good condition, but without Leo intervention, were left sitting in a storage room in the basement of the San Francisco Main Library near City Hall. GRYPHONS Leo Club now takes some of these books, and put them to better use in the hands of the less fortunate by giving them out during our Health Fairs. While we prioritize childrens books when selecting from the library's stock, all kinds of books have made their way onto our distribution table, including cookbooks, encyclopedias, sheet music and musical instruction, comic books and manga, and classical literature. These books are given free of charge, and all we collect from our recipients is the number of books distributed. This number has grown to well over 1,000 books distributed over the lifetime of this project, and we are expecting to give out many more in the future.
